Recently, I pulled out my first tapping journal and leafed through the pages.
I noticed a huge difference between my notes from those early personal tapping sessions and how I tap now.
The first thing that I noticed is that I did a lot of journaling, but I didn’t actually do much tapping about what was bothering me.
That was probably related to the fact that when I was tapping on my own early on, I wasn’t able to reduce the intensity of anything I tapped on. I often felt like I didn’t know what I was doing and I didn’t.
My early tapping was vague and unfocused. I sat and tapped on every random thought that came to me. I didn’t take the time to simply stay with one thing.
One of my journal entries is especially indicative of my process then. I noticed that I felt like I had a rock in my gut. I wrote, “Then I did some tapping on this… tapping for understanding, asking for clarity.”
It’s clear that I didn’t know how to be in the moment and recognize what piece to tap on. Now, I know to simply stay with exactly what I am noticing in that moment. I am PRESENT.
If I were doing that tapping today, I would begin by tapping on the side of my hand (How To Tap) saying, “Even though I have this rock in my gut, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though I have this sensation in my gut and it feels like a rock, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though I have this rock in my gut, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
Then I would tap on the Tapping Points saying a phrase that summarizes the issue, such as “this knot in my gut.”
For me, the sensation of a rock or knot in my gut is always about FEAR. After a round or two using the simple words describing what I was noticing in my body (this knot in my gut), I would stop and again be present and listen to any thoughts or feelings coming to me.
Maybe I would recognize what I was afraid of and then tap on that.
Again, tapping on the side of the hand saying, “Even though I have this knot in my gut and I am afraid of XYZ, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
When I moved to tapping on the Tapping Points (How To Tap), I would tap each point and again say a shorter phrase that summarizes the issue such as “I am afraid” or “I am afraid of XYZ.”
Looking back at my early experiences, I realize that I could have made much more progress on my issues, if I had learned the specifics of how to do EFT Tapping sooner. Going it alone only meant that I stumbled in the dark longer.
When we are unhappy with something in our life, it will stay the same – unless we do something to change it.
If there is something in your life you want to be different, gather your courage and do something different, something to change it.
The alternative is that a year from now, three years from now, ten years from now, you will still be dealing with the thing you don’t like today.
Change is good 🙂
